The 2021 calendar year has come to a close ….And what a year it was! Downtown Springfield has a cooperatively owned grocery store! Many thanks to the 2,935 members whose investment in the coop made this possible. I am full of gratitude for all of the support for our little co-op from the community, our board of directors, and our amazing co-op staff. The past year provided ample challenges to address on top of moving the store to downtown. Covid-19 played a major part in how we proceeded to get the store built and outfitted safely. Our staff has faced another year of working with masks eight hours a day. Supply issues have impacted how we stock our shelves. A recession, and now inflation, are on our minds as we work to keep everyone employed and serve our community. We continue to put the finishing touches on our beautiful little store. Our indoor café has not opened and we are rethinking our space outside under the pergola – stay tuned for some exciting ideas.
Through all the turmoil and intense work hours, one thing shines through to me. The small acts of kindness and words of support have sustained us as we continue as essential workers. Thank you!
I’m looking forward to finding more ways to safely connect with our community and community partners. Together we will continue our work and celebrate the 30th birthday of the Springfield Food Cooperative in 2022!
