🍎 Grocery Stocker

We’re looking for a grocery stocker to join the Co-op Crew! Stock bulk bins, organize bulk back-stock; rotate, stock, and face refrigerated and frozen products; prioritize and package bulk products; rotate, stock, and face packaged grocery products.

STATUS: Non-exempt, part- to half-time position
Reports to the Grocery Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Department Operations

  • Ensure displays and shelves are fully stocked and rotated. Use stocking guidelines and checklists to maintain efficiency and organization of products.
  • Double-check for accurate signs and prices. 
  • Attend department and storewide meetings.

Department Maintenance

  • Dispose of damaged or spoiled goods promptly with appropriate notice to Grocery Manager.
  • Remove trash, clean cases, and keep prep and storage areas in clean, orderly condition.
  • Use equipment safely. Monitor cooler and walk-in temperatures and follow procedures for handling breakdowns. Advise Grocery Manager of equipment repair and replacement needs.
  • Participate in quarterly inventory.

Customer Service

  • Provide friendly and efficient customer service to all customers, regardless of department.
  • Assist customers with grocery questions. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

🍎 Front End Shift Lead

The front end team is integral in the smooth operation of the Co-op. Front end team members are the first and last contact a member or customer has when shopping at the co-op. Team members provide friendly, prompt, helpful, and accurate customer service, both externally (with our customers) and internally (with your co-workers). In addition, the shift lead position assumes responsibility for ensuring that policies and procedures are followed – including safety, store appearance, and emergency response. The shift lead position is expected to role-model excellent customer service and leadership for the front end team. Weekend and opening (morning) shifts required.

STATUS: Non-exempt, full-time position.
Reports to Front End Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Customer Service

  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Process purchases promptly and accurately using current POS system.
  • Greet customers in a friendly, welcoming, and courteous manner.
  • Understand what makes a co-op different.
  • Be familiar with and able to explain membership simply, efficiently, and completely.
  • Provide a friendly, accurate, and memorable check-out experience. 
  • Ring bell for a backup cashier in a timely manner, keeping customer wait time to a minimum.
  • Respond to bell and staff needs promptly.

Department Operations

  • Assign daily tasks and breaks, in consultation with or in the absence of the Front End Manager.
  • Ensure stocking and/or fronting of product in all departments as needed, according to stocking guidelines.
  • Monitor store appearance for cleanliness, ensure stocking of supplies as needed, and perform last check before end of shift.
  • Keep informed of operations by regularly using all forms of communication: whiteboard, huddle notebook, Sling messages, and mailbox communications. 
  • Answer phones as needed and take messages for staff.
  • Understand both new and existing front end and store policies, standards, and procedures, assist other employees in understanding these, and inform managers of any policy violations or concerns.
  • Communicate with Front End Manager and department managers as needed. 

Safety and Security

  • Be familiar with location and contents of Safety and Security Manual.
  • Be familiar with basic building safety and emergency response procedures, and be able to direct other staff in following procedures.
  • Know location of First Aid boxes.
  • Complete incident report forms or employee injury report forms.
  • Monitor outside of building for weather-related concerns.
  • Contact General Manager with weather-related concerns or for the weather plan.
  • Know location of list of emergency maintenance numbers.
  • Contact General Manager with any equipment concerns or maintenance requests.
  • Ensure proper cooling and heating of store.

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years in a fast-paced customer service outlet
  • At least 2 years point of sale experience
  • A positive, cooperative attitude
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn about natural foods
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good listening skills
  • Ability to learn and retain new information

🍎 Dishwasher and Deli Prep

The Springfield Food Co-op is now hiring for a Dishwasher and Deli Prep! This position supports the deli by maintaining the cleanliness of the work areas and equipment, stocking and facing product, and assisting in food prep duties as needed.

STATUS: Non-exempt, part- to half-time position.
Reports to Deli Manager.

Responsibilities:

Department Operations

  • Keep department’s retail area fully stocked by preparing and refilling containers as needed.
  • Assisting manager and team members with food prep duties as directed.
  • Receive deliveries in accordance with deli policy.

Department Maintenance

  • Ensure food prep, work area, utensils, equipment, and display areas are maintained in sanitary, orderly condition, meeting or exceeding health department standards.
  • Wash dishes, pots, and pans in a timely manner using proper sanitation techniques.
  • Clean the hot bar and coffee areas as needed.
  • Restock the cases and coffee areas with supplies.
  • Stock and organize the storage shelves and coolers as needed.
  • Follow USDA and VT State law regarding the use, labeling, and handling of allergens.
  • Follow standard sanitation operating procedures as set by management and health department.
  • Ensure proper labeling and storage as per health department.
  • Participate in inventory counts as directed by management.
  • Notify management of supplies needed and equipment problems or requirements.
  • Monitor temperatures in cases and coolers.
  • Pull old or low-quality items, record, and dispose of them according to established procedure.
  • Share dish-washing duties with co-workers.

Customer Service 

  • Provide friendly and efficient service to all customers.
  • Be willing to assist customers and members in finding the items they are looking for, even if not in deli department. 

QUALIFICATIONS

🍎 Grocery Manager

The Springfield Food Co-op is now hiring for a full-time Grocery Manager. The Grocery Manager will select, price, and merchandise Grocery products, including bulk, refrigerated & frozen, coordinate wholesale orders, and meet objectives for sales, margin, inventory turns, and great customer service.

STATUS: Non-exempt, full-time position.
Reports to General Manager

Responsibilities:

I. PURCHASING

  • Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, and delivery. 
  • Integrate National Cooperative Grocers flyer program, core sets, monthly commitments, and the new item program.
  • Coordinate sale specials, demos, and utilize available advertising. 
  • Evaluate suppliers and investigate new sources of supply.
  • Receive orders, or ensure proper receiving by other staff in accordance with established procedures. Keep accurate receiving records. 
  • Coordinate returns and credit from suppliers where applicable. Keep accurate accounting of credit requests. 
  • Review invoices for accuracy, break into account codes, and pass on to the finance department.

II. MERCHANDISING

  • Ensure displays and shelves are fully stocked and rotated. Set stocking priorities for staff assisting in Grocery department. Stock items as needed. 
  • Plan attractive displays. 
  • Conduct periodic comparisons with competitors. 
  • Set prices to meet margin goals. Markdown items as needed to reduce losses.
  • Ensure accurate, up-to-date price labeling of department items.
  • Solicit suppliers for promotional offerings including case stack deals and member specials.
  • Provide product information to newsletter, website, customers, and staff.
  • Provide prompt, friendly, courteous customer service.

III. DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE

  • Coordinate storage of items to be returned to suppliers. See that unsaleable items are properly disposed of. Ensure accurate shrinkage records.
  • Ensure that department shelves, displays, aisles, and storage areas are in clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards.
  • Participate in inventory counts ensuring inventorying of department is accurate.
  • Maintain department equipment in working order. Advise General Manager of equipment repair, replacement needs, and desired equipment purchases. 

IV. PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT

  • Recruit, screen, and employ qualified staff following store hiring procedures.
  • Provide extensive hands-on training and appropriate written training materials to be used in conjunction with performance evaluation as standards of performance.
  • Conduct and file written copy of performance evaluation and recommendation for pay increase (if applicable) during required time frame with the GM.

V. TASKS ASSIGNED BY GENERAL MANAGER

  • Attend management team meetings to develop marketing plan, plan promotions and ad campaigns, revise store layout, set store policies and procedures, etc.
  • Participate in NCG National Cooperative Grocers programs.
  • Participate in setting margin, sales, and labor goals for department; add or drop product lines.
  • Participate in the compilation of the annual capital and operating budgets.
  • Review daily and monthly sales reports; look for trends, problem areas, and possible actions to be taken.
  • Train, schedule, and supervise department support or member workers in department.
  • Act as an integral part of our participatory management system.
  • Maintain professional standards, i.e. punctuality, neatness, pleasant helpful manner.
  • Cashier as needed.
  • Attend industry trade shows as appropriate.
  • Keep up on industry trends, news and legislation.
  • Other duties as assigned

VI. STAFF RELATIONS

  • Maintain good working relations with other staff.
  • Follow store-wide policies and procedures.
  • Encourage team dynamics.

VII. STORE SECURITY AND SAFETY

  • Know proper procedures for handling shoplifting and robbery.
  • Know how to avoid injury.
  • Know what to do in the event of injury or an emergency.

VIII. CO-OP KNOWLEDGE

  • Know what makes a co-op different.
  • Know the difference between members and member workers and how the member worker program operates.
  • Know the structure of Springfield Food Co-op and promote membership to our customers.

IX. PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE

  • Develop a good working knowledge of all products in our store.
  • Know where to locate information about products.

🍎 Facilities Coordinator

The Springfield Food Co-op is looking to hire a part-time Facilities Coordinator to ensure the physical grounds of the store are maintained at the cleanliness, safety, and operational standards of the organization.


Status: Reports to Customer Service Floor Manager.
Supervises any internal cleaning staff if any, and oversees outside contracts.


Responsibilities:

I. MANAGERIAL

  • A. Manages daily operations related to facilities and physical plant.
  • B. Assist in planning budgeting for repairs and improvements each year and monitors budget to actual performance on any approved projects.
  • C. Develops and maintains working relationships with all Department Managers to assist in planning for future department renovations or improvements.
  • D. Ensures Preventative Maintenance Program is completed by outside contractors or fully trained
    staff.
  • E. Attends and helps coordinate all major events and projects.
  • F. If supervising staff, holds regular team meetings, ensuring informed and effective staff.


II. FACILITIES OVERSIGHT

  • A. Oversee building security and security policies, ensuring the building is secure at all times and staff properly trained to maintain store security.
  • B. Facilities manager must be on the call-list for off-hours security issues and must maintain an effective call-list plan at all times.
  • C. Ensure overall cleanliness of store. This includes creating systems and checklists, and oversight of daily store cleaning and cleaning staff as well as planning, scheduling, and execution of larger store cleaning projects. The organization’s overall image is upheld by its cleanliness and so all cleaning procedures must meet with the store’s objectives for cleanliness and support image.
  • D. Responsible for managing outside contracts such as: linens and rugs contractor, pest control, trash and recycling removal, preventative maintenance contracts on facilities, and for researching and sourcing new contract options when necessary.
  • E. Oversee equipment maintenance contracts for all major store equipment, setting of equipment monitoring policies to prevent loss of product and address possible issues as early as possible – Make recommendations to Floor Manager for new contracts or changes to existing contracts. The GM will be the only authorized signer on any of these contracts.
  • F. Evaluate and ensure customer and staff safety in all areas of the store, parking lot, and outdoor receiving areas at all times by establishing policies and protocols as necessary to maintain this safety. This may also include coordinating staff training on new safety protocols or processes.

III. CLEANING STAFF

  • A. Hire qualified applicants following established policy.
  • B. Ensure appropriate department-specific on-the-job training to ensure that all facilities staff is proficient in their skills and knowledge required for these positions
  • C. Conduct timely and meaningful performance evaluations in accordance with the co-op’s processes and standards for excellence.
  • D. Recommend pay raises within department budget and co-op pay scale.
  • E. Take disciplinary action as needed following established policies.
  • F. Develop master schedule for all cleaning staff according to the co-op’s needs.
  • G. Ensure department staff is informed of storewide meetings and policy changes.
  • H. Establish regular and effective team communication systems.

III. GENERAL

  • A. Attend organization meetings as requested.
  • B. Perform other tasks assigned by Floor Manager or GM as requested.

Part to Half-time position opening up, 24 hours a week minimum with the potential for more. Weekend days required.
